Day 155, Week 22 - Max GI bread - yum…..

I have been careless with my diet and exercise this week AS WELL, first as a result of a cold and then due to a CRICKED NECK.:( Last weekend, I was also faced with the first Christmas buffet of the season and ate lots of lovely food. But I held back a bit, at least, and didn’t eat until I was breathless. :( For the first time, the measurements around the stomach and waist has increased! The scales are also pointing upwards, oh dear. But you can’t lose weight every week, although enough is enough.

At least I can console myself by eating my favourite food, hamburgers. I have just discovered how great the GI burger buns at Max are! I know that I should only be eating delifresh chicken/salad, since it’s even healthier than the GI (without cheese), so now I simply ask for a delifresh chicken or, alternatively, a Slimburger in a GI bun. :) Here is a funny and true story: a neighbour’s daughter arrived back in Sweden from Canada last week, and guess what she’d missed most? Max hamburgers! Hello! The whole of Canada is littered with hamburger joints, so surely there must be something out there that’s suitable? Well, Martin, at least you don’t have to pay a fortune for dinner. :)

The weather is just too depressing, and to top it all, I receive upbeat e-mails from my brother and his girlfriend in India! I hope the two of you have a great trip.

Exercise, 4 x morning walks, 1 x weight training. I have not been training for A WEEK now!:( Damn, my neck is completely gone…

Day 148, Week 22 - The moving day approaches, Ikea and packing…

Dear heavens, what a clear-out we’ve had before the pending move. It’s pointless to keep things we haven’t touched since we moved in together SEVEN years ago. So much thrown away and time for a trip to the tip. I visited Ikea last Friday, and there are few things I dislike more than Ikea… Howling kids and the place packed with people. But on Fridays, there is no-one at the store, so visits are far less traumatic.:) We found what we wanted and could go straight into the warehouse area when we were ready to collect what we had decided to buy.

We had coffee with Jan-Olof and Gittan during the week - they are the lovely house-owners who are moving to an apartment. We are extremely grateful for the things you are leaving behind for us to use!

Last weekend, we celebrated the first Sunday of Advent by baking ginger biscuits, and the saffron buns baked earlier in the week were fantastic. You probably think I’ve really fallen by the wayside this time, but you would be wrong. I’ve been eating healthily all week, despite having lunch on a few occasions during the week.

Exercise: training session with Lise last Monday (always tough) and a really hard session with Calle, a friend from work, which left me with aching muscles for the whole of the weekend. Only did 4 morning walks this week. The weather is truly depressing - just as well I’m not prone to suicidal thoughts.

Day 141, The 21st week. Party party - NOT

The family is finally beginning to feel a bit better. Tilda is now free from her ear infection, and everything should roll on as normal this week. It’s been hard with children and servers waking me up during the nights, and I’m feeling an autumn lethargy setting in.

I have to keep watching what I’m eating. The Max hamburger diet was easy - it was great to have a menu and to know what I could eat all the time. I’m still eating five times a day, using a menu and regular eating times. I’m trying to take a lunchbox with me to work, to stop my lunches becoming unhealthy. I cooked loads of great food while I was at home with Tilda, including lasagne with a 50/50 mix of carrots and minced beef which turned out to be a great success. Pia’s salmon pasta is delicious, as is the Thai-style chicken fillet casserole. I have to publish some recipes a bit later on. :)

The same breakfast as during the Max diet
Fruit between breakfast and lunch
Lunch
Afternoon snack of fruit or vegetables (an organic tomato or some carrots)
Dinner
A piece of fruit or some fruit salad in the evening if I’m feeling peckish.

The weekend was celebrated with an oral defence of a doctor’s thesis and a Christening. Congratulations, Doctor Per, you are the king and everything you touch turns to gold! For my part, there was FAR TOO MUCH drink, and my brother had to drag me home. I’m simply not used to my new body not being able to cope with large quantities of alcohol, but I’ve certainly become cheaper to maintain. The Christening on the Saturday WASN’T one of the highlights of the weekend. I had no opportunity to exercise before I was due at the church, and I was thoroughly hung-over ALL day. I’m obviously getting too old for this now!

D 141

I spent the Sunday fetching packing boxes from the attic. Now it’s time to clear up before the move, which is a lot of hard work and great exercise for the back and forearms.

Exercise 2 x weight-training for chest/back. 1 x moving boxes to and from the attic (really hard work), 4 walks over the same period.

Day 134, Week 20 - The Älvsjö Cottage Hospital.

The misery continues with a visit to the Älvsjö Cottage Hospital, and there is no end in sight… Youngest daughter Tilda now has the mother of all colds and has also contracted an ear infection. The doctor has prescribed penicillin. Oldest daughter Emma was also complaining about earache, but I think she just wanted to stay at home with Tilda and her mother. It has taken me all week to recover from my stomach bug, so I haven’t been able to exercise as much as usual. It’s always disheartening when this happens just when you get going, and I’m now terrified that the cold will follow hot on the heels of the bug.

Due to the installation of new servers, I had to work all weekend….. Things are finally beginning to shape up, and I ought to see a fall in my workload.I’ve been asked about my BMI. Perhaps someone can help me - I’m 178 cm tall. Lise, my friend who helped me get going with exercise, has said that I shouldn’t get too hung up about the BMI. It quite simply doesn’t work with some body types. I should be checking my waist measurement, which should not exceed 102 cm. Before I went on a diet, my waist measurement was 129 cm. Even when she was pregnant with our third child, my wife only measured 120 cm! But in any event, here is my before-and-after BMI.

BMI BEFORE  the Max hamburger diet : 40.1 (anything in excess of 30 counts as obese)
BMI now: 29.4 (anything over 25 counts as over-weight)

Evidently, I have now gone from being obese to simply being over-weight, which is great. :) Check out this site, it’s really interesting. Among other things, it’s calculated my energy requirement in kcal etc. To maintain my current weight, I should consume about 3125 kcal per day. If I eat less than approx. 2045 kcal per day, I should lose weight. While on the hamburger diet, I only consumed around 1400 kcal per day, but this has now increased to about 2500 kcal. Check it out yourself!

Exercise, yes, well….. I’ve walked on 4 days this week, but I also changed tyres on the car, and that certainly provided some exercise! I even snapped one of the nuts - rubbish car!D 134 F D 134 S

Day 127, Week nineteen - Sloppy and a stomach bug…

What a great week it’s been, but oh dear, I’ve really been sloppy with my diet. I met Max’s founder, Curt, and his lovely partner, Malin, for the first time, and we had a far too nice dinner together. They were an incredibly fascinating couple, and excellent company. Then it was time for a weekend conference at Sigtuna höjden, and what can I say - tasty food and refreshments. A week of binging ended with a 40th birthday celebration. Happy birthday, Fredrik, and thanks for a wonderful party…

…and my punishment for the above is a winter stomach bug! My wife phoned me at the birthday party to say that our youngest daughter was vomiting like something out of the Exorcist. One day later, and I had joined her - let’s just say that “feeling ill” doesn’t even begin to describe it. I’ve even been left with a bruised neck! I weighed myself today despite the stomach bug. After binging on food, I wouldn’t have been surprised to find that I’d suffered a set-back in the weight loss department, but 12 hours in the bathroom took care of that! Fortunately, I avoided the night shift at the computers, and only had one restart on the night between Monday and Tuesday. I’ve also had a go at creating my very own book based on my MinimizeMe journey! Lots of fun and really fascinating - the perfect Christmas gift, with photos!I haven’t been this sloppy with my exercise since the start. Only one weightlifting session and 3 morning walks.

Day 120, The eighteenth week - Weight 95.2KG

Tick-tock, tick-tock. Time moves quickly when you get older…. When you’re at school, you counted the hours and looked forward to the evenings. Now you count the days to Friday instead. Isn’t it strange how time seems to accelerate…. Tick-tock….  It is now 02.30 in the morning. I’m having problems with a server and have phoned the emergency help line. The server has rebooted and I’m sitting here, waiting for a file check.
Tomorrow will be a long, difficult day.
The weekend was great. My wonderful wife, Pia, is a real karaoke fan, and had entered the Myran Open XI.  You’re great, John - we really enjoyed the atmosphere at Myran and a fantastic event!
I’m battling on with the exercise: 4 x weight training sessions and morning walks on 4 days. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday… But I don’t get as much muscle pain anymore, and my body is getting used to the work…I’m continuing to eat healthily and frequently - 5 times a day to stop me getting hungry and peckish. If I do get peckish, I eat an apple. This mostly happens in the evenings now that I’m exercising more.

Day 113, Sixteenth week - Weight 95.3 kg

The apartment is now sold! Jakob and Caroline are a lovely couple, but it feels a bit nostalgic and sad. There is no way back now, and we’re actually about to move. I haven’t had time to post new menus, but I am continuing on the Max dietician’s model of eating 5 times a day. There are fewer hamburgers in the diet now, but I couldn’t stop myself and had two meals this week. I noticed that Max has started to push its Delifresh meals a bit harder. Well, I might be slightly mad, but hamburgers are still my favourite food. The scales have continued downwards this week and there has been a clear drop in the amount of fat in my body.

Exercise: I have continued to exercise as well. 3 weightlifting sessions and 5 days with 40 minutes walking in the morning. This time, I went a bit easier on the legs during the weightlifting sessions

Day 100, 200 hamburgers, minus 31 kg!

Today is a special day for me. I’ve eaten 200 hamburgers in 100 days and lost 31 kg, and now it’s time to learn from the experience and move on. I will be changing my diet slightly, but still eat healthily and take exercise.I would like to thank all the wonderful people who have supported me - you know who you are. I would also like to thank Max  for their fantastic support and Lise  who has meant so much to me. Naturally, I would also like to mention my wonderful wife, who has supported me through good times and bad.

Here are my tips for losing weight!
1. Adopt a target and a menu - STICK TO IT AND DON’T CHEAT - EVER!
2. Motivation - Who could possibly backtrack on a weight-loss programme if they have nailed their colours to the mast on a website? In my case, it attracted a lot of attention and I’ve had to promise not to go over 100 kg again!
3. The food - Eat something you really like! Forget the algae soup and seaweed stew! I will continue to eat hamburgers, but with a side order of salad, water or milk instead. The difference is that I will now have to start paying for my hamburgers, isn’t that right Alexandra (wink wink).
4. Ask someone for help - A friend, a dietician, a personal trainer. Find a weight-loss pal! I have made lots of new contacts via my site, and these have meant an awful lot to me! Lise, you are a star - better motivation is hard to find!

I WANT TO MAKE A BET THAT I WON’T GAIN WEIGHT AGAIN!
Wink for Betsson, my former employer! Keep minimizeme.se on your site, and of course I will be placing a bet with hamburger-Johan!

Day 99, The fourteenth week (2.0 kg) - 198 hamburgers later -31 kg

must thank my wonderful wife for buying me a set of clothes. She loves shopping - I HATE it. Would rather eat live worms than spend a day shopping at GK. But the new outfit is only the beginning - my whole wardrobe has to be replaced. I now take size 34 jeans instead of 42/44, and size Large sweaters and t-shirts rather than XL.
Tomorrow, I will be eating hamburger no. 200. I won’t close down the blog but will probably write a bit less often, and tomorrow I will be stating my pledges! At least I will be motivated to keep my weight down in the future :)

Exercise: 40-minute morning walk, after breakfast. We’ve had to delay the gym work until today.

Day 98, A day for me and the children

Now I’m almost there. These are pictures from Monday morning. I look completely different from before. I’m actually wearing the same underpants I did on day 1, but now they look large - before the diet they were definitely on the tight side. :) Today, I spent the cosy day with Max and Tilda. We had one viewing and had to do some cleaning and tidying.Exercise: NOBODY dares to refuse to exercise! Well, Lise said that I could have one day off a week, now that I’ve stepped up the programme. But I’m feeling a bit fidgety. :) I’ll have to try that African dance, it’s supposed to be pretty tough. :)
