Day 249

We really needed some time to ourselves, my wife and I, so we planned a trip to Karlstad, where we would also spend the night. The children were left with a former neighbour, so Pia and I could enjoy each other’s company all by ourselves.

On the way to Karlstad, we stopped off in Eskilstuna for a visit to a Max restaurant. It’s a long time since I had a Delifresh Chicken sandwich, although this time with GI bread! I’ve really missed these burgers. A sign said that the restaurant was about to expand, and I can really understand why. The queue was too long, but despite the fact that the staff was working under extreme pressure and had far too much to do, the quality was as good as ever. Great job, Max Etuna!

We enjoyed a performance of Candide at the Värmland Opera. I thought it would be more of an opera and less of a musical, but this was not the case. Anyway, the performance was fantastic. Pia has a friend called Julia, ,who has a part in the production. Julia, I was really impressed by you and the rest of the cast. It’s a long time since I laughed so much at a man dressed as a woman - an impressive performance by David Lundquist. Towards the end, just seeing you made me smile!

Anyone who had come here to see Sven Wolter would probably have been disappointed, since his performance only took the form of a recording shown on TV. A cheap trick to add a famous name to the billboard? Ditch the TV and let David or someone in the cast act the part of the narrator, ’Voltaire’!

Bye for this time, Karlstad, we hope to see you again soon. Perhaps when it’s time for the ice hockey final?
PS: The sun doesn’t always shine in Karlstad - today it rained, of course!
I’ve done well in the exercise area this week. Two workouts (chest and back) and 4 walks.

Day 237, Work, work, work - the Jalbum community is now live!

The new version of our site, Jalbum has now been released. It’s a great feeling to finally go live and to know that all the effort which has gone into the site has now made it available throughout the world.
There have been long and late evenings, and my eating habits have gone down the drain. I have really not looked after myself very well in the past weeks, and for the first time, I no longer weigh 30 kg less than when I started.

Without fail, the scales keep reading 98.5 kg! I shouldn’t be surprised, but the annoying thing is that it’s all in my head - I simply stopped caring.
I know the consequences of skipping lunch and eating too much in the evening. That’s precisely what I was doing when I turned into “Fat Johan”. Right, it’s time to pull myself together (oh, the feeling of deja vu). Right now, I’m eating a piece of fruit.

Exercise: I’ve worked out hard at the gym, twice last week and 3 times the week before. I’ve taken the time to do it, but the 12-hour days are taking their toll… :(
I’ve continued to walk to work, since the buses are so unreliable anyway. That means 40 minutes’ walking, 3 days a week. I also spent an hour playing floorball during the school holidays, when my son Max’s floorball training school was open. Evidently, only a few of us were aware of this. There was a great deal of running involved…. :)

Result: 28.9 kg
98.5 kg (127.4 kg) Total weight
24.7 kg (42.0 kg) Fat
53.3 kg (44.0 kg) Water

Day 223, Fat Johan…

Well, the weeks are rushing by fast. I’m missing my burgers, and am feeling fat since the scales are stubbornly remaining around 97 kg. Before the hamburger diet, it would have seemed impossible that my normal diet would make me “fatter” than the hamburgers did, but this seems to be the case. I’ll have to introduce some healthier breakfasts again. During my hamburger diet, I never grew tired of hamburgers, but I getting fed up with healthy whole-grain bread. Can’t understand what’s supposed to be so tasty about a whole-grain board which tastes like sawdust. I much prefer ordinary, everyday crispbread anyway. But I’ll have to put a stop to white-bread cheese sandwiches for breakfast.

Our lives are beginning to return to their everyday pattern again, after a sad and crazy start to the new year. On top of everything else, we have had SERIOUS problems with the nursery. When the Swedish Centre Right coalition decided to privatise the nursery schools, 3 out of 5 alternatives available to us in Långbro disappeared. Now there is a waiting list for every nursery, and suddenly the waiting times are of no significance whatsoever??? After a lot of hassle, I managed to secure a place for Tilda from 1 April…. At one of the only two remaining municipal nurseries. We’ve been on the waiting list since mid-July for a place from 1 March, and were first offered a place from the end of August. Absolutely outrageous! But at least we’ve solved the problem now.

Exercise: my exercise routine has suffered, since I’ve only been to the gym once this week. Some walks, but I just can’t find the motivation. :( I really will have to make an effort to take more exercise!

Result: 30.5 kg
96.9 kg (127.4 kg) Total weight
24.5 kg (42.0 kg) Fat

Day 216, Sad 2008…

What is it about this year? We seem surrounded by violent and sudden death. Pia’s father, Janne, was 63 years old and died unexpectedly on the night between Friday and Saturday. Janne was a fantastic person with great drive and commitment, and he will live on in our hearts.

Day 209, 36 years old…

Well, now I’m a year older AGAIN! 36 and not getting any younger. A bit of a party and far too much lovely food all weekend. The combination of food, beer and wine has left its mark. I feel really bloated!
The scale has jumped up and ALL measurements have increased by about a centimetre in a single week! I would never have thought it possible…. Physically fatter0, but the real blow is mental - it’s depressing to consider how badly I’ve treated myself. In combination with “super-January”, as the newspapers have taken to calling it, it makes me wonder if the suicide rate may have gone up by 100%! Right, that’s it, I really have to get a grip…

At least I haven’t been skimping on exercise.

Exercise: 3 x weightlifting, Chest, Legs and Back. Also 4 long walks.

Result: 30.2 kg
97.2 kg (127.4 kg) Total weight
23.7 kg (42.0 kg) Fat

I feel bloated all over - strange, perhaps I’m coming down with a bug or something.

Day 202, 200 days!

It’s now 100 days since I completed my diet plan. A peek at the internet showed me what my final result was, and it seems like I’ve remained at virtually the same level, losing 1.6 kg in the past 100 days. But I must add that the percentage of fat has gone down and the percentage of muscle has gone up. Not a lot, but it does feel like my body has redistributed itself. Time to post some new pictures of me in my underwear. :)

I’ve spent a morning posing as a model. I’m certainly far from a professional and felt rather silly and uncomfortable, but it was fun all the same and provided great inspiration for keeping the weight down. Tilda kept her cool better than anyone else, just sat there and dribbled and looked out-of-this-world cute. :) Thank you, Emelie at Topphälsa, take a look at the ‘backstage’ pictures! The pictures will be featured in issue 4 which is due out in mid-March.

Exercise, 2 x weightlifting Chest and Back. Have been skimping on the walks this week…. but I did get out a little bit at least.

Result: 32.2 kg

Day 195, Tilda 1 year old - how time flies!

What a party! Tilda is now one year old - time passes so quickly! She had her first ever cream gateau, and was over the moon. Isn’t it incredible how a little whipped cream and some paper-wrapped and beribboned gifts can make someone so happy? This week, my thoughts have turned to life and death, and to the imporance of living in the present. You never know what tomorrow will bring! Lolla’s mother, Anita, was only 62 years old when she passed away. You are in our thoughts….

Sigh…… why do we have to worry so much about the future. Responsibility, saving for retirement etc. I pulled myself together and signed up for mortgage protection today, just in case something should happen to me or my wife, Pia. Losing your house and home while mourning a spouse would just be too awful to contemplate.

Exercise, 3 x weightlifting Chest, Back and Chest. Walks to and from the underground 4 times in total this week.

Result: 33.6 kg

Day 188, Make-up, photo model - me?

I seem to be repeating myself all the time, and every week sounds the same. At least I’ve now got Internet access at home, which I’ve been looking forward to. Professionally involved with IT and not able to surf via 3G in Älvsjö since the service is so poor. You can surely do better than this, Tele2! Your customer services department just apologises, but it’s a safe bet I’ll still get billed for the lot.
I’ve had an interview with a new magazine, and they want to take photos of me for the article. I told them that it was great that my Max hamburger diet is still generating attention, and that some are still reading about my weeks of confusion. :) Apparently, I’m going to be subjected to make-up and styling for the first time in my life! Painting my face with a Swedish flag for the ice hockey world championships doesn’t count. :)
Lost 1.7 kg over Christmas and gained 2 kg a week later? That can’t be right…. Unfortunately, Lise has stopped working as a personal trainer, so now I’m on my own. I miss you, Lise! I work out with my colleague Calle, and also did a session alongside Danne.

Exercise: I’ve started walking more again. A 30 minute morning walk from home to the underground station. This week, I’m also going to walk home again, which makes it an hour a day. Two chest and back weightlifting sessions.

Result: 31.5 kg

Day 181, First week of the new year… Happy New Year! -1.7 kg, has anyone else lost weight over Christmas?

It’s ages since I wrote something. I simply haven’t had the time or energy, and I am currently without Internet until week 3. :( You probably think I’ve given up on losing weight, but this is not the case, according to the scales, at least. Another thing which has been and gone is 1.7 kg over Christmas. So what did I do over the holidays. I moved house - we’ve been living with packing cases for a couple of weeks, but are now finally getting things organised. Moving house is hard work, but what a workout! I even remembered to lift correctly, so that the muscles were taking the strain rather than the back. Anything for a bit of an extra work out…
What did you do about Christmas food? I ate everything and too much of it as well, but thanks to the house-move, I wasn’t snoozing on the sofa. Then it started to snow, and playing with the kids would, as I’ve said before, wear out even a top-class athlete. By the way, Charlotte Kalla – congratulations on your Tour de Ski win - you’re GREAT! So now I’m back at work after a really long break… Although I have a super job, I’m having trouble being enthusiastic about it today…

Exercise: my morning walks and keep fit exercises fell completely by the wayside over Christmas. But with the time I spent assembling Ikea furniture, moving boxes and furniture would have made a formal exercise routine superfluous anyway - this Christmas has been my busiest ever.

Result: 33.6 kg
93.8 kg (127.4 kg) Total weight
23.4 kg (42.0 kg) Fat
53.9 kg (44.0 kg) Water

I couldn’t find a measuring tape, but these are the figures from December. :( I’ll probably find it in a box somewhere. :(

Day 162, Week 24 - Christmas is coming….

My neck has finally recovered and now I’ve run out of excuses - exercising will recommence this week. I’ve visited a naprapath who cracked and twisted me around, so now I’m as good as new. The house move is in full swing and I’m experiencing a REALLY annoying problem with my servers at work. I shouldn’t complain, but I feel so cold that I think something’s happened to my body! I normally feel really warm, but now my teeth are chattering most of the time. It may be because I’ve lost more than 30 kg of protective blubber.

Exercise: 4 x morning walks, 0 x weightlifting. Fourteen days without a single visit to the gym is really depressing. I spoke to Lise and we’ve agreed to meet up after Christmas, around January 7. Self-dicipline is something I’ll have to learn to exercise, however. :( Unfortunately, I’ve suffered from muscle ache since the visit to the naprapath.
